Empowering Educators: A Mentoring Experience under the National Mission for Mentoring (NMM)

On April 6, 2025, Ramesh P. Badoni, National Awardee and IT Faculty from SCERT Uttarakhand, participated as a mentor for fellow mentors under the visionary initiative — the National Mission for Mentoring (NMM), launched by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The NMM, envisioned in Para 15.11 of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to create a robust pool of outstanding professionals who are willing to mentor and support school teachers in enhancing educational outcomes and classroom practices across the country.

Area of Mentoring: ICT Integration with the 5E Teaching Model

The focal point of the session conducted by Ramesh P. Badoni was ICT integration in teaching plans, with a specific emphasis on designing lessons using the 5E Instructional ModelEngage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate.

This structured approach not only aligns with the learner-centric philosophy of NEP 2020 but also encourages the meaningful use of digital tools in pedagogy. Here's how the model was contextualized for the mentoring session:

  • Engage—Using digital storytelling, interactive videos, and visual prompts to spark curiosity.

  • Explore—Introducing simulations, coding games, and inquiry-based tools to promote active exploration.

  • Explain: Facilitating clarity through screen recordings, collaborative documents, and discussion forums.

  • Elaborate—Extending learning with real-world projects, flipped classroom methods, and collaborative platforms.

  • Evaluate—Incorporating online assessments, self-check tools, and reflective e-portfolios.

This integration empowers teachers to craft engaging, technology-enabled lessons that foster deeper understanding and critical thinking among students.

Engagement with National Educators

The session witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 25+ teacher educators and mentees from different corners of India. It was expertly moderated by Ms. Juile Shuba, the National Coordinator for NMM, whose insightful facilitation made the interaction deeply impactful.

What stood out was the collective energy and openness of all participants — a testament to the growing momentum for educational innovation and the commitment to quality teaching practices.

A Rewarding Exchange of Ideas

The mentoring dialogue was not only about sharing strategies but also about listening, learning, and co-creating solutions. Educators shared their on-ground realities, challenges, and aspirations — and together, the group explored ways to transform classrooms using ICT.

This peer-driven knowledge exchange validated the role of mentoring in professional development and reinforced the need for ongoing support networks among educators.

A Vision in Motion

The National Mission for Mentoring is more than a policy initiative — it is a movement that seeks to strengthen the heart of education: our teachers. By empowering mentors, we are building a chain of leadership and trust that extends into every classroom, especially in remote and under-resourced regions.

Ramesh P. Badoni expresses gratitude to NCTE, the Ministry of Education, and the mentoring community for this incredible opportunity. It was truly a memorable and energizing experience to interact with a national network of educators dedicated to redefining the future of learning in India.

Let Us Continue the Journey Together

With initiatives like NMM and the collaborative spirit of educators, the dream of NEP 2020 is not far from reality. The mission continues — to inspire, to mentor, and to lead education into a bold, inclusive, and digitally empowered future.
