Strengthening Teaching Practices – A Successful State-Level Teaching Plan Initiative in Uttarakhand

In a remarkable step towards enhancing teacher training in the state, SCERT Uttarakhand, in collaboration with Sterlite EdIndia Foundation, successfully conducted Phase 1 of the State-Level Teaching Plan from 12th to 18th June 2025 across all DIETs of Uttarakhand (with the exception of DIET Champawat).

Director of Academics Bandana Garbyal gracefully appreciated the initiative. This joint initiative was thoughtfully designed to build strong lesson planning capabilities among Pre-Service Teachers (PSTs), equipping them with the necessary skills to implement student-centric and structured teaching practices in their future classrooms. Recognising that effective lesson planning is the backbone of quality education, the program aimed to standardise and elevate teaching methodologies in teacher education institutions.

Coordinated Statewide Effort

The entire program was smoothly coordinated by the D.El.Ed Department of SCERT Uttarakhand, under the guidance and leadership of three dedicated academic faculty members — Dinesh Chauhan, Arun Thapliyal, and Praveen Chandra. Their continuous support ensured the seamless implementation of the initiative across districts and maintained alignment with the objectives laid out by SCERT and Sterlite EdIndia Foundation.

Each DIET became a hub of reflective academic activity during the training week, where PSTs actively engaged in planning, peer-reviewing, and refining their lesson designs based on feedback. Sessions also emphasized classroom contextualisation, inclusivity, and the integration of NEP 2020 recommendations into everyday teaching.

The success of Phase 1 has empowered PSTs with essential planning skills and laid the foundation for future phases that will focus on classroom execution and observation. With continued collaboration between SCERT Uttarakhand and the Sterlite EdIndia Foundation, the initiative is poised to bring about a transformative shift in teacher preparation and educational quality across the state.

This initiative reflects the state’s unfailing dedication to nurturing professional competence among future educators and stands as a testimony to what focused partnerships and visionary planning can achieve in the realm of education.
