National Mission for Mentoring Empowers Teachers Across India-2025

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has announced the expansion of the National Mission for Mentoring (NMM), a flagship initiative aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 (para 15.11)
The mission aims to create a large pool of outstanding professionals who will serve as mentors, providing both short- and long-term professional support to school teachers throughout the country.

Structured Mentoring for Teachers

School teachers are now able to engage in one-on-one and group interactions with seasoned mentors via the NMM Web Portal. These sessions cover a wide spectrum of domains, including:

  • Indian Knowledge Systems
  • Pedagogy and classroom practices
  • Teacher’s mental well-being
  • Inclusive education
  • Vocational education
  • Educational leadership
  • ICT integration in classrooms

The domains will continue to expand to address emerging priorities in school education, ensuring teachers receive timely and relevant guidance.

Empowering Teachers, Enhancing Learning

NMM is designed to empower teachers by providing need-based mentoring that addresses professional challenges. Teachers can seek support not only for subject-specific concerns but also for:

  • Stress management
  • Career progression
  • Integration of 21st-century skills into teaching-learning processes

By strengthening classroom practices, the mission aims to enhance student learning outcomes and foster a culture of continuous professional growth.

A Mentor for Every Teacher

At its core, NMM is built on the belief that every teacher deserves a mentor – a trusted guide to accompany them in their professional journey. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to teacher empowerment, equity, and quality education for all.
