India has achieved a proud milestone in the field of school education and digital empowerment. The UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) has released its global guide titled “Guide for Educators to Support Gender Transformative Integration of ICT and AI into Secondary and TVET Classrooms in the Global South.”
This landmark publication highlights innovative practices from across the world, and India’s contribution shines through a case study from SCERT Uttarakhand, showcasing how the state is actively promoting girls’ participation in ICT education.
SCERT Uttarakhand’s Case Study
The case study (pages 104–107) in Guidelines-Gender-ICT-Global-South reflects the initiatives spearheaded by Ramesh Prasad Badoni, IT Faculty, SCERT Uttarakhand. Through ICT fairs, innovation challenges, and techno-fest activities, he has actively promoted digital literacy, ICT confidence, and inclusive participation among girls.
These efforts have created a gender-transformative learning environment, ensuring that girls are not just participants but leaders in the digital education space.
Global Recognition
The UNESCO team, via Istidama Consulting, expressed appreciation:
“It was a great experience to learn about your work in support of girls and women in tech. Your learnings and recommendations will help educators and schoolgirls across the Global South.”
This recognition firmly places India and SCERT Uttarakhand on the global map of gender-transformative ICT practices, reinforcing the country’s commitment to integrating digital skills, AI literacy, and equitable access in school education.
UNESCO has also extended an invitation to join its Global Webinar on Gender Equality and Use of ICT in Education, scheduled for 5 December 2025.
