On August 3rd, 2024, the Sterlite EdIndia Foundation organized a highly informative webinar for D.El.Ed students, under the esteemed guidance of Bandna Gabryaal, Director ART; Aajay Kumar Nauriyal, Director of Secondary Education; and Asha Rani Painyuli, Joint Director SCERT. The focus of the webinar was on the topic "Developing Listening Skills in English Language," aligning with the objectives set forth by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for teacher educators.
The session aimed to equip future educators with the skills and knowledge necessary to become experts in digital learning. The key objectives of the session were:
To Develop Understanding of Listening Skills: Participants were introduced to the concept of listening skills, exploring the fundamental differences between listening and hearing, and how effective listening can be cultivated in an educational setting.
To Understand the 'Stages of Listening Skills' Through Interactive Activities: The webinar featured interactive activities that helped participants grasp the various stages of listening, providing practical insights into how these skills can be taught and developed in a classroom environment.
The webinar saw enthusiastic participation from principals and preservice teacher trainees across 13 DIETs (District Institutes of Education and Training). Attendees found the session immensely valuable, with many expressing that the insights gained would significantly contribute to their professional development. They also conveyed their eagerness for more such enlightening sessions in the future.
This webinar marks another successful step in the ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of teacher training, as recommended by NEP 2020, by focusing on critical areas like listening skills and digital learning proficiency.
