Five-Day Capacity Building Programme on NEP 2020 Implementation Begins at NCERT, New Delhi

A five-day Capacity Building Programme on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is being conducted from 23rd September to 27th September 2024 at NCERT, New Delhi. This program aims to enhance the capacity of educators and institutional leaders in aligning with the objectives of NEP 2020.

NEP Cell Coordinator Manoj Bahuguna detailed as the NEP 2020 stresses the importance of transforming the SCERTs and DIETs into institutions of excellence. These bodies will play a key role in training both pre-service and in-service teachers, ensuring the highest quality at all stages of education, as no stage is deemed more important than another. The revamped SCERTs and DIETs will spearhead the implementation of the 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 schooling framework. The government plans to enhance these institutions through infrastructure upgrades, innovative research, continuous professional development, and the use of ICT.

According to Joint Director CIET-NCERT, Dr Amarendra Behra the prime focus is to make SCERTs and DIETs robust centers of professional development that can serve as models for private institutions at the state and district levels. Strengthening the relationship between state, district, block, and cluster levels is crucial. The Ministry of Education, Government of India has highlighted teacher training as a key priority in the Union Budget, with a focus on innovative pedagogy, continuous professional development, and ICT integration based on NEP 2020 guidelines.


Objectives of the Capacity Building Programme (CBP):

This Capacity Building Programme (CBP) aligns with the vision of NEP 2020 and addresses critical areas such as:

  • Universal Access and Retention
  • Foundational Literacy and Numeracy
  • Gender and Equity
  • Inclusive Education
  • Quality and Innovation
  • Digital Initiatives
  • RTE Entitlements (uniforms, textbooks, etc.)
  • Support for Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)
  • Sports and Physical Education
  • Capacity Building of Teachers and Teacher Educators
  • Monitoring and Programme Management

Additionally, the CBP aims to train educators on various themes like innovative pedagogy, experiential learning (through sports, arts, and toy-based pedagogy), 50-hour continuous professional development (CPD) programs for teachers and headteachers, and holistic assessment. The programme will also focus on integrating ICT, sharing resources, and providing academic support across school, vocational, and adult education as envisioned in NEP 2020, NCF-FS 2022, NCF-SE 2023, and NCF-TE (ITEP) 2023.
