Gender Equality and the Role of ICT & AI in Education: UNESCO IITE Webinar (5 December 2025)

 

On 5 December, UNESCO IITE organized a special webinar focusing on the gender-transformative use of ICT and AI in education. On this occasion, Ramesh Badoni from the IT Faculty of SCERT Uttarakhand participated online and shared dimensions of ICT and AI in teaching that can strengthen gender equality.

  • Launch of Online Course: The mini-course series titled “Gender Equality in the Use of ICT in Education” was officially launched.

  • Publication of Educator’s Guide: A special guide for teachers was released, offering practical approaches for gender-transformative use of ICT and AI.

  • Participation of Experts: UNESCO officials including Justin Sas, Shirin Yakoub, Una McCarthy, Tatiana Shutova, and Zien Habjoka joined the session.

  • Contribution of Ramesh Badoni: He shared experiences from Uttarakhand’s digital education initiatives and explained how ICT and AI can promote equal opportunities in teaching.

The webinar highlighted the SolarSPELL Initiative, which empowers offline communities by providing digital libraries and 21st-century skills. This solar-powered educational library creates a safe offline WiFi hotspot, enabling access to thousands of open resources.

The next follow-up webinar will be held on 19 December, focusing on participants’ impressions of the course, feedback on content and structure, teaching scenarios developed during the course, and peer discussions on implementing gender-responsive ICT and AI approaches in classrooms.
