Consultative Meet on SDG 4.7 at NCERT, New Delhi

Dr. Ajay Chaurasiya, representing Uttarakhand SCERT, participated as the Nodal Officer in a three-day Consultative Meet on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.7 at NCERT, New Delhi. The primary objective of this meeting was to facilitate the sharing of works related to SDG 4.7 goals, with a specific focus on education for sustainable development and global citizenship.

Objectives:

The consultative meeting aimed to achieve the following objectives:

1. Exchange of Ideas: To provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, experiences, and best practices related to SDG 4.7, particularly focusing on education for sustainable development and global citizenship.

2. Collaboration: To foster collaboration among various organizations, institutions, and individuals working towards the implementation of SDG 4.7 goals.

3. Review of Progress: To review the progress made by different stakeholders in implementing initiatives aimed at promoting education for sustainable development and global citizenship.

During the three-day meet, participants engaged in discussions and deliberations on various aspects of SDG 4.7, including:

1. Importance of Education: Participants highlighted the crucial role of education in promoting sustainable development and fostering global citizenship among learners.

2. Best Practices: Various organizations and institutions shared their best practices and successful initiatives aimed at integrating sustainability education into formal and informal education systems.

3. Challenges and Opportunities: Participants discussed the challenges faced in implementing SDG 4.7 initiatives and explored opportunities for overcoming these challenges through collaborative efforts.

4. Policy Recommendations: Recommendations were made to policymakers for developing comprehensive policies and strategies to mainstream education for sustainable development and global citizenship.

NISHTHA Workshop for National Resource Group (NRG) at CIET-NCERT

The NISHTHA workshop, organized by NCERT, aimed to train the National Resource Group (NRG) comprising participants from various states, including Uttarakhand. As a lecturer representing SCERT Uttarakhand, I had the privilege to participate in this enriching workshop held from March 11 to March 14, 2024, at CIET-NCERT in Delhi.

Workshop Objectives:

The primary objective of the workshop was to equip the NRG members with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively train the State Resource Group (SRG) members. The SRGs, in turn, will play a crucial role in further training District Resource Groups (DRGs) and eventually teachers across the state.

Key Learnings:

S P Verma from SCERT reported that throughout the workshop, participants gained valuable insights into various aspects of educational training and development. Some of the key areas covered during the sessions include:

1. Communication Skills: Participants were trained in effective communication techniques to enhance their ability to convey educational concepts and ideas to others.

2. Internet Ethics: The workshop emphasized the importance of ethical behavior and responsible use of the Internet, especially in the context of educational content creation and dissemination.

3. Open Educational Resources (OER): Participants learned about the significance of OER and how to effectively utilize it in teaching and learning processes.

4. Educational Audio and Video Production: Practical sessions were conducted to teach participants the skills required for creating educational audio and video content, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of teaching materials.

Conclusion:

The NISHTHA workshop proved to be an invaluable opportunity for participants to enhance their training skills and knowledge. As a member of SCERT Uttarakhand, now confident that the insights gained from this workshop will not only benefit personally but also contribute significantly to the professional development of educators across the state. Best gratitude to NCERT for organizing such a well-structured and informative event, and being a state representative look forward to implementing the learnings from this workshop in  future endeavors in the field of education.

We are excited to share with you an extraordinary journey embarked upon by a delegation from Uttarakhand, India, to explore and learn from the esteemed education systems of Finland and Switzerland. Led by the Honorable Education Minister, Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, and accompanied by key education officials, this ten-day trip (11 March 2024 onwards) is poised to be a transformative experience aimed at enriching Uttarakhand's education landscape.

The objectives of this educational odyssey are multifaceted, aimed at delving deep into the intricacies of Finland's and Switzerland's renowned education systems. Our delegation seeks to examine various aspects, including recruitment practices, transfer policies, curriculum development, textbook selection, infrastructure, and assessment methods. By immersing ourselves in the educational ethos of these nations, we aspire to glean valuable insights and innovative strategies that can be adapted and implemented in Uttarakhand's educational framework.

At the helm of this expedition is Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, a visionary leader committed to revolutionizing Uttarakhand's education sector. His presence underscores the government's unwavering dedication to fostering excellence and inclusivity in education. Accompanying him is a distinguished team comprising Secretary of Education Ravi Nath Raman, Director of Academic Research and Training Bandana Garbyal, and other eminent education officials, each bringing invaluable expertise and perspectives to the table.

Objectives:

• Examination of Education System: To conduct a comprehensive analysis of the education systems in Finland and Switzerland, exploring their structure, policies, and practices.
• Recruitment: To study the recruitment procedures for educators in Finland and Switzerland, aiming to identify best practices and strategies applicable to Uttarakhand's education sector.
• Transfer Policy: To evaluate the transfer policies for educators in Finland and Switzerland, seeking effective methods for managing transfers and placements within Uttarakhand's education system.
• Curriculum: To examine the curriculum frameworks and development processes in Finland and Switzerland, with the goal of enhancing Uttarakhand's curriculum to align with international standards.
• Textbooks: To assess the textbook selection and development procedures in Finland and Switzerland, aiming to improve the quality and relevance of textbooks used in Uttarakhand's schools.
• Infrastructure: To evaluate the educational infrastructure, including school facilities and resources, in Finland and Switzerland, with the aim of informing infrastructure development initiatives in Uttarakhand.
• Assessment System: To explore the assessment and evaluation methods employed in Finland and Switzerland, aiming to enhance assessment practices and ensure quality education outcomes in Uttarakhand.
