SCERT Uttarakhand and Honda to Launch Soon Digital Road Safety & Life Skills Course

Dehradun, 22 May 2026:

In a landmark step towards integrating life skills and road safety into school education, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Uttarakhand, in collaboration with Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI), is set to launch a digital road safety awareness programme for teachers and students across the state. This initiative will be accessible to all through online platforms, including DIKSHA and PM eVidya, ensuring wide reach and inclusivity.

Presentation and Key Participants

Today, a detailed presentation was delivered by Dhruv Goswami, Lead Manager – External Affairs (Road Safety Relations), Honda, in front of SCERT’s IT Department team. The session was moderated by Dr. K. N. Bijalwan (Assistant Director, SCERT), Manoj Bahuguna (NEP Coordinator), and Pushpa Aswal (Coordinator, PM eVidya). IT team leads R. P. Badoni and S. P. Verma steered the discussion, while technical experts Rajat Chhibar, Achal Thapli, Vinay Uniyal, Saurabh Joshi, Atul Kathait (Admin Officer), and other members contributed valuable suggestions.

Honda’s proposal builds upon Uttarakhand’s existing road safety material, Sadak Suraksha – Ek Pahal, and introduces a two-section curriculum framework for Classes 1–12:

  • Knowledge Perspective: Rules, concepts, and factual learning such as pedestrian safety, traffic signals, vehicle rules, road signs, seatbelt and helmet use, emergency numbers, and Good Samaritan provisions.

  • Mindset Change Perspective: Activities and interventions designed to instil hazard perception, empathy, responsibility, and safe behavioural habits. Examples include role plays, peer-led pledges, crash reconstructions, and experiential learning exercises.

The curriculum is aligned with NEP 2020 developmental stages, NCERT directives, and international best practices (WHO, UNICEF, GRSP). It ensures age-appropriate learning—from simple traffic light recognition in Classes 1–2 to advanced topics like crash biomechanics, digital distraction, and active citizenship in Classes 11–12.

Digital Video Content

Complementing the curriculum, Honda has also proposed age-group-specific road safety videos. These digital modules focus on mindset change and responsible behaviour, and can be used in classrooms, morning assemblies, awareness sessions, or teacher-led facilitation. The videos are designed to reinforce safe attitudes and behaviours among students, making learning interactive and impactful.

Next Steps

SCERT and Honda will soon sign an MoU to formalize this partnership. The programme will be integrated into the school curriculum as a life skills course, empowering both teachers and students to become responsible digital citizens and safer road users.

This initiative represents a forward-looking blend of policy, pedagogy, and technology, ensuring that Uttarakhand’s education system not only imparts knowledge but also nurtures safer habits and life skills among its learners.
