On the auspicious occasion of Teachers’ Day, 5 September 2026, Uttarakhand celebrated the dedication, innovation and exemplary service of its teachers through the prestigious “Shailesh Matiyani State Educational Awards 2025–26” ceremony held at Raj Bhawan, Uttarakhand.
The ceremony was graced by the Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, and Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Hon’ble Minister of School Education, Uttarakhand, who honoured teachers selected for their outstanding contribution to school education, innovative teaching practices, student development and commitment to strengthening the educational landscape of the state.
Senior officials of the School Education Department were also present on the occasion, including Additional secrateray Namami Bansal and Reena Joshi, Akanksha Konde Director General, School Education, Uttarakhand; Bandana Garbyal, Director Academic, Uttarakhand; and Vinod Semalti, Director, Secondary Education, along with other senior officers and dignitaries of the department.
Celebrating the Teachers Who Shape Uttarakhand’s Future
The Shailesh Matiyani State Educational Award represents one of Uttarakhand’s significant recognitions for teachers whose professional commitment extends beyond routine classroom teaching.
The teachers honoured this year have demonstrated exceptional skills, creativity, leadership and dedication in their respective schools and institutions. Through their work, they have contributed towards improving learning opportunities, strengthening the quality of education and creating a more educated and empowered Uttarakhand.
Teachers serving in different geographical and social settings—from remote mountain schools to urban and semi-urban institutions—continue to play an important role in ensuring that education reaches every child with quality, equity and dignity.
The Teachers’ Day ceremony therefore became not merely an award function, but a celebration of the teacher as a mentor, innovator, institution-builder and architect of the future generation.

Special Honour to National Teacher Award Winner
The ceremony also recognised Manjubala from Champawat, a National Teacher Award winner, as a special honour, adding further pride to Uttarakhand’s educational fraternity.
Her recognition at the state-level Teachers’ Day celebration symbolised the journey of Uttarakhand’s teachers from classrooms in the hills to platforms of national distinction.
Governor and Education Minister Honour the Teaching Community
The presence of Hon’ble Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh and Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat made the occasion particularly memorable for the award-winning teachers.
By honouring these educators on Teachers’ Day, the state acknowledged the enormous responsibility teachers carry in shaping not only the academic achievement of children but also their character, confidence, values, creativity and aspirations.
The awardees represent thousands of teachers working across Uttarakhand who continue to overcome geographical, infrastructural and social challenges to provide meaningful learning opportunities to children.
The Shailesh Matiyani State Educational Awards also carry the legacy of the celebrated Uttarakhand writer Shailesh Matiyani, whose literary contribution was deeply connected with society, human values and the life of ordinary people.
Recognising outstanding educators in his name gives the award a special cultural and educational significance for Uttarakhand.
19 Teachers, One Shared Mission
A total of 19 teachers were selected across the Elementary, Secondary and Training Institute categories—12 from Elementary Education, six from Secondary Education and one from the Training Institute category—while the National Teacher Award winner was accorded a special honour.
Although they come from different districts, institutions and educational contexts, their mission remains common: to make education meaningful, inclusive, innovative and transformative for every child.
On Teachers’ Day 2026, their recognition at Raj Bhawan sent an inspiring message across Uttarakhand—that committed teachers and innovative educational practices are central to building a knowledgeable, progressive and empowered state.
